While following the work of another artist, I found a link to Cinder's Gallery. This is a small, DIY art gallery, zine and handmade goods shop in Brooklyn. The store opened after one of the owner's homes burned down and the other's became unlivable. So, out of necessity came beauty - in the form of this space. Pictured above is the work of shop owner, Kelie Bowman. While browsing through the artists they show, her work really caught my eye. It reminded me a bit of Marcel Dzama, with his folklike storytelling set in an anonymous surrounding. Also, the "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a great Joy Division reference.
