FUN WITH THE FRENCH...

I stumbled upon the site for the French architecture firm emmanuel combarel dominique marrec architectes while on the ol' world wide information superweb. I wish I knew French, because then I could tell you what these buildings are. In any language, they are pretty damn amazing. The first one looks like a big LEGO buiding. I wanna live in a big LEGO building. Enjoy.

I JUST DON'T KNOW...

This is Snoop's new video for his single Sensual Seduction. He is either a genius... or back on the pipe. You decide.

REMEMBER...

To click this everyday. It only takes a second. Thanks.

LOVE 4 AMY...

I found this flyer at a coffee shop, and couldn't believe it. This girl was a victim of a hit and run on her bike, and is now stuck with the massive medical bills. She is having a fund-raiser at the Balazo Gallery in SF this Friday to help pay for it all. People from all over have donated artwork and handmade goods for her to sell and auction off. Pretty rad. Check out her blog for more info... and ALWAYS look for cyclists when you are driving.
This has been a Public Service Announcement from The Kitchen Table.

OFFICE SUPPLIES...

SF designer Jason Schulte, principal of Office Design (and mid-westeern bowling champ), just released his new print for the holidays. At only $16, this makes a great gift.

PEEP THIS...

I just found a link to Peepshow, a fun art&design collective in England. Check out their reel to see some of their animation work. Talented kids.

MY CONDOLENCES...

Skateboarding is officially dead.

Yup, that's right. You are looking at leather and ostrich "special" edition skateboards. The geniuses over at the French chapter of mini-lifestyle magazine Frank151 teamed up with luxury leather goods maker Jacques Ferrand to create these. Ree-diculous!

OH, CANADA...

I am diggin' the first video from these Canadian youngsters, The Flatliners. It definitely has a strong Fat Wreck Chords feel, but I like it. They are on tour right now, so go to a show and buy 'em a beer... cuz they're not old enough. So sad.

VERY IMPORTANT LEGISLATION...

Sorry... this is too good not to post. Warning - this is not safe for work. Enjoy.

MR. SPLASHY PANTS...

I just got an email from Corie about this competition.

More than 11,000 possible whale names were submitted but we are now down to the last 30 possible whale names...which ones will be given to the wonderful humpback whales currently travelling on the Great Whale Trail?

Choose your favourite name from among the 30 and hit the submit button at the bottom of the page. You can only vote once but you can ask as many friends to vote as you like.

The obvious choice is Mr. Splashy Pants. If you were a whale, wouldn't you want to be called Mr. Splashy Pants. I would. Now, Mr. Splashy Pants currently has 70% of the vote, but we need to make sure it is chosen. Please vote.

EVERY KID'S DREAM...

Local artist Katy Horan recently completed all of the illustrations for this great video from Yoriyos. Enjoy.

12oz PROPHET RELAUNCH...

Graf magazine kings 12oz. Prophet have relaunched their site, with a ton of improvements and new guest blogs. Enjoy.

FISH STICKS ANYONE?...

My friend Jeremy has just released a collaborative limited-edition 3 skate deck series between his company Superfishal and Upper Playground. For each deck, he collaborated with an artist that he admires - such as (from L to R) Michael Sieben, Todd Bratrud and Pushead. Check them out here.

THE LAST TEN - PART III...

Here are the last 10 random iPod songs that have graced my ears this morning. Enjoy.

LOVE & HATE...

I like this new graphic for Threadless. Pretty clever.

MIDNIGHT RADIO...

Remember the movie Hedwig and The Angry Inch? If not, shame on you... it is a great gender-bending rock n' roll story. The closing scene is quite emotional (and rockin' at the same time). To better understand this scene, here is the trailer. Run out and rent it tonite. Enjoy.

GREEN TEAM...

Will Farrell is at it again. Enjoy.

The best line - "I've got a murder..."
Well... you'll see.

WEEKEND UPDATE...

My friend Chondra has some amazing quotes from apparently a very exciting weekend on her blog Life of Cinematic Moments.

This one is my favorite...
"All I want out of life is a bloody mary, to swing on the handicapped swing in the park with the crotch strap...and a cupcake."

FOR THE LOVE OF BRYAN...

The young man who calls himself lovebryan has posted a new series of random NYC photos. Pretty good stuff. Enjoy.

OUTSIDE LOOKING IN...

My friend Anna (a.k.a. Miss Appleseed) is an awe-inspiring writer. The honesty in her writing about life and love is rivaled only by her ability to paint a picture of the often less-than-perfect world around her. Thanks for sharing your daily thoughts, Miss Appleseed. It doesn't go unnoticed.

If you are looking to be moved or inspired, spend some time on the Miss Appleseed blog. Enjoy.

Here is an excerpt from financial sunset...
yesterday, i walked instead -
missed the crowded train to
join the crowded streets where
foot traffic moves along like
an impromptu urban ballet
i work at imagining the beauty in it:
until there are white washed picket fences
where their faces should be,
leaning weary and haphazard in front
of a glass and rebar sunset.

STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING...

And go watch the trailer for Heima, the new film by the ethereal Icelandic band Sigur Ros. It is the most beautiful film I have seen in a long, long time. After many years of touring, the band returns to their native Iceland to play a series of shows in small towns. The film documents their experience of going home, and the need to do so. From interviews with the musicians to the random landscapes, the scenery is unreal. Each shot looks like a painting. If you are not familiar with their music, now is the time. Below are some stills from the film. Enjoy.

A POET IN THE NIGHT...

To this day, I still believe that Jawbreaker's 24 Hour Revenge Therapy is the greatest album ever recorded. The now-defunct San Francisco (more specifically, Mission) three piece truly changed my life in 1994 when a friend gave me a cassette with this album on it. But it wasn't just the music, it was Blake Schwarzenbach's ability to tell a painfully personal and emotional story. In my head, I always pictured him writing the lyrics while sitting on a fire escape with a beer and a smoke, most likely after breaking up with a girl. It forced me to do a lot of thinking, reading, writing and soul-searching... even at the age of 17. Schwarzenbach is the greatest lyricist (or poet) since Bob Dylan. To learn more about Jawbreaker, check out this brief overview. Enjoy.

"I rode down to the tracks.
Thinking they might sing to me.
But they just stared back.
Broken, trainless and black as night.
Climbed out onto my roof.
So I'd be a poet in the night."

WORDS TO INSPIRE...

The song Writer's Block from my friends HIJK came up randomly on my stereo this morning and the lyrics are truly amazing. Maybe it's the gloomy Sunday morning, but they really made me stop and think. I hope it inspires, reminds, or helps you in some way.

I've never suffered through writer's block,
but now I've discovered a real life crutch.
Called loss. Some call it love.
It's just one reason why I'm leaving.
I've never suffered. Why should I?
Last I heard, your real life was all on track.
(There's no looking back)
It's the reason why I'm leaving.

GOTHY GOODNESS...

The queen of the cutely morose Camille Rose Garcia has a solo show called Escape to Darlingtonia at the Merry Karnowski gallery in LA. Enjoy.

TAKE TIME TO WANDER...

I spent a couple of hours today cruising around the Bayshore district of SF. I used to spend a lot of time taking pictures on weekends in this maze of anonymous warehouses and dead-end alleys. Its a great area because you never know what you will run into out there... just keep your eyes open. More to come later. Enjoy.

Found some modern art.

Ran into the Homeless Church bus. This bus visits the various homeless camps around China Basin and tries to help some folks out.

A quiet scene.

Will Reba McIntyre stop at nothing to keep her career going?

Someone found a random piece of meat and felt the need to point it out... and I felt the need to take a picture of it.

Freak

Goonies

Oooh, somebody's in trouble.

Adapt

Alice and a cow with a giant diamond. How very urban.

Note the homemade cross hanging on the right.

I love this Nat piece. It looks a lot like Naka's work.

Something about this door and weird hubcap-looking things really grabbed my eye.

Great corner of graf.

Quake

Hey... is that Gandhi?

Yup... it's Gandhi!

I've heard a few things about that tramp, Dawn.

I have no idea what this Keith Haring reference means.

I've seen Por Vida popping up all over town. I'm a fan.

ALERT was blowin up Bayshore.

Me too...
